Internationally, Brunei Darussalam has been party to several United Nations Conventions namely:
- the Vienna Convention on the substances that deplete the Ozone Layers signed on 26 July 1990,
- its Montreal Protocol signed on 27 May 1993 and its Amendments since 2009,
- Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Hazardous Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal was signed on 16 Dec 2002,
- Though not yet a full member of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, Brunei Darussalam has the opportunity to receive technical assistance for implementing the project "Evaluation of National Dioxin and Furan Inventories' in December 2002.
